A check engine light tells you something is wrong, but not what. A cheap code reader gives you a five-character fault code, and that code is only ever a starting point — a P0171, for example, doesn’t mean “replace the oxygen sensor”, it means the engine is running lean, and there are a dozen possible reasons for that. Reading the code correctly is only the first step; working out which of those reasons applies to your specific car is the actual diagnosis.
We use manufacturer-level scan tools, not generic OBD-II readers, and we cross-check live sensor data against the fault code rather than replacing parts on a guess. That’s the difference between a real diagnosis and a parts-cannon approach that can cost you several times over before the actual fault is found.

Engine Lights — common questions
The light is on but the car seems to drive fine — is it urgent? +
Not always, but it’s worth checking. Some faults are minor (a loose fuel cap can trigger it) while others, left unaddressed, can lead to more expensive damage. A quick scan tells you which situation you’re in.
Will a generic code reader tell me the same thing as your scan? +
It will give you the same fault code, but not the live data or manufacturer-specific detail needed to confirm the actual cause. That’s why the code alone is only a starting point.
Do you clear the light after fixing the fault? +
Yes — once the fault is repaired we clear the code and, where the manufacturer requires it, carry out any relearn or reset procedure so the light stays off.
