Battery Diagnostics & New Car Battery Replacement in Mascot

Load testing, charging system diagnostics and same-day battery replacement — so you know it’s actually the battery before you pay for one.

A flat battery is the most common reason a car won’t start, but it isn’t always the cause. Before we replace anything we load-test the battery under real conditions and check the charging system — the alternator and its wiring — because a battery that keeps going flat is very often a symptom of a charging fault, not a battery fault. Replacing the battery alone in that case just buys you a few more weeks before it happens again.

Modern vehicles are also fussier about batteries than older ones. Many require the correct battery type (AGM or EFB, not standard flooded) to support stop-start systems, and swapping in the wrong type can cause the stop-start function to disable itself or throw warning lights. We fit the correct specification for your vehicle and, where the manufacturer requires it, register the new battery with the car’s computer so the charging system manages it correctly.

Car Batteries — common questions

How do I know if it’s the battery or the alternator? +

Slow cranking that improves after a short drive often points to a battery losing charge; dash warning lights or dimming headlights while driving point more to the alternator. Either way, a proper load test and charging system check gives a definite answer rather than a guess.

Can I just buy any battery, or does it need to match my car? +

Many newer cars need a specific battery type (AGM or EFB) to support stop-start and other electronics. Fitting the wrong type can cause faults or disable stop-start entirely, so we always match the manufacturer specification.

Do you keep batteries in stock for same-day fitting? +

Yes, we carry a range of batteries for common makes and models and can usually fit on the spot. Call ahead to confirm stock for your specific vehicle.
